The Narrow Escape
Dear sons and daughters
The Supreme Buddha mentioned that there is only one opportunity, and only one unique, opportune moment for following the path of Dhamma leading to Nibbana. That is: a Buddha has arisen in the world and the dhamma leading to enlightenment and freedom from suffering is taught; a person is reborn in the central part of India or in the Indian subcontinent; and that person is wise, intelligent and able to understand the meaning of the dhamma. This is the only one, unique, opportune moment to follow the path of the dhamma.
So how rare is the opportunity that you have gained now? You have escaped from all eight inopportune moments. Therefore try to understand the value of this moment. If you miss this moment, after this life no one knows when a moment like this will present itself to you again. As this rare moment is expiring minute by minute, try to collect more and more merits by way of spreading loving kindness, practising generosity (on the occasions you return home), maintaining virtue, and developing good human qualities.
It is difficult to gain the opportunity to hear true Dhamma.
Rare is the appearance of Buddhas.
